One of the hardest parts about living away from home is being separated from Gracie and her never-ending efforts to escape my cuddles. 💕🐶

Welcome to 2020! For the last week, I’ve been angry at myself for not getting any thesis work done over the holidays. Here’s what I’m realizing though: I needed a break. My brain was so exhausted from nearly a month straight of ten-hour work days that I didn’t even turn on my computer for the first week that I was home. Today is my first “real day” back at the thesis grind, and I’m more focused than I’ve been in weeks. I’m working on the second major draft of my introduction to ease back into things, and I’m being way more productive than I would have been had I not taken a big break over the holidays. Listen to your body and brain when they tell you they need a break. It’s incredible how your perspective can shift in a matter of months. When this picture was taken at the beginning of April, I was incredibly unhappy with my body. I hadn’t yet made any significant changes to my diet, and I felt gross all the time. At that time, I looked at this picture and felt fat and ugly. I’ve been working a lot recently on self care and being kind to myself. I’ve switched my diet, not to lose weight or anything like that, but because it makes me feel better. I try to walk everywhere. I try to find things that I like about myself in photos, rather than automatically looking for the “bad.” It might be something really small, but now I can look at recent pictures of myself and love how I look without making comparisons to how I looked three years ago.
