Hello, Friends.

Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m Kaitlyn, a twenty-something grad student who loves to travel. Here you will find posts mostly about my travels. but also about books (I’m an English major after all) and a brain dump for my life. I hope you enjoy!

Hiking Highlights: The Best of Acadia National Park

Hiking is an activity that has quickly become one of my favourite hobbies over the last few years. I really got into it when I lived in Scotland, a country that has so much natural beauty to offer that you can’t resist pulling on your tennis shoes and heading out to explore. I came to […]

So much love ♥️ Everybody meet Mick Jagger! I think I’m as in love with him as Lisa and Ossie are 😍🐴
I’m gonna miss these munchkins while I’m home for Christmas ♥️🐴
Such a lovely Christmassy time in the beautiful town of Merrickville with my aunt and uncle yesterday. The perfect little break from school stress and to get into the holiday spirit. 🎄♥️
Question: what’s the most unexpectedly beautiful place you’ve ever stumbled upon while travelling? For me, the beautiful town of Neckarsteinach in Hesse, Germany, not far from Heidelberg. Last summer we took a river cruise along the river Neckar from Heidelberg, and were dropped off in this quaint little village. Germany will always remain one of my favourite places, and places like this are why. ♥️ 🇩🇪
One of the biggest realizations that I came to in 2019, after much reading, many podcasts, and a great episode of @patriotact (which, on a side note, is a fantastically hilarious and wonderfully informative show that everyone needs to watch on Netflix), is that I no longer want to support the fast fashion industry. The clothes are poorly made with materials whose production and disposal are detrimental to the planet. Not only that, but these companies exploit the labour of vulnerable communities all over the world. This realization means a few things. I’m no longer supporting companies like @hm, @zara, @walmart, @forever21, @dynamiteclothing, and @oldnavy - even if most of my current wardrobe is made up of clothing from these stores. I’m also not made of money. So what does this mean? It means thrift shopping, and giving a home to gently used clothing that might otherwise end up in a landfill. It also means choosing to spent more money on responsibly made, ethically sourced clothing that is made of sustainable fabrics like linen. This crop top from @cedarandvine is the first investment I’ve made in a #slowfashion brand, and I don’t regret it one bit. A top like this might be worth the same amount of money as several items at a fast fashion brand, but this is because an incredible amount of thought, love, and craftsmanship went into its creation. Going forward, any clothes that I purchase myself will be either from thrift stores or brands like @cedarandvine (who I love!), @magiclinen, @everlane, @loveandconfuse, or @hazelandfolk. And I’m also trying to consider any piece I buy as being applicable to more than one season. This crop top, which will look great in the summer paired with my denim skirt, also looks great layered over my grey turtle neck. I’m not trying to be preachy. Just trying to speak my truth about something that I’ve become obsessively passionate about in my journey to being more eco-conscious in the last year. If you’re concerned about the effects of the fast fashion and textile industry on the planet, I encourage you to do some research. You won’t regret it. Much love. ♥️
Found this picture that @jemmmely took of me in Amsterdam in February and I just had to post it. 🇳🇱💙 Sometimes I wish every day were like this one, but then I realize that if it was, I’d take moments like this for granted: a simple sunset in a new city as the reflection of the streetlights dance in the canal water. I pinch myself constantly when I travel, and am blessed that I’m in a position to do it.
